A Cincinnati Bengals and Andrew Whitworth reunion isn’t an uncommon topic among fans of the former this offseason.
The Bengals have some needs up front and Whitworth, the longtime Cincinnati leader who went to the Los Angeles Rams in recent years, is set to be a free agent.
And while he’s admitted he wants to stick with the Rams, the veteran tackle has also made it clear he’ll consider other options if it doesn’t work out.
“For me, I think that’s obviously my wish, is to stay in Los Angeles and continue with the Rams,” Whitworth said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I just think there’s a lot there that I have left to do in leadership and play and everything else. If it works out, great. And if there’s another opportunity somewhere else, I’ll be ready.”
We’ve already noted a Whitworth-Bengals reunion would make perfect sense. He’s a team legend, still productive and repairing the relationship would be a way for the franchise to show fans it has turned a corner of sorts.
The idea Whitworth won’t be back with the Rams is a tough one. He was arguably their best lineman last year on a struggling unit, but the front office only has about $23 million to work as of now and has other needs to address.
If Whitworth is for some reason available, it would be interesting to see if both sides would consider a reunion, to say the least.
