When Andrew Whitworth isn’t protecting his quarterback in the pocket, you can probably find him on a golf course somewhere. It’s one of his favorite hobbies, and he said recently that he tries to at least go to the range or play 18 holes just about every day during the summer.
Well, he’s going to put all that practice to the test this week at the American Century Championship, a star-studded celebrity golf tournament held along the shore of Lake Tahoe in Nevada. Whitworth is making his debut in the event, which kicks off on Friday morning.
In the first round, he’s paired with former Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams and 49ers kicker Robbie Gould. Surely, he’ll have plenty to talk about with those two.
According to the USGA’s GHIN index, Whitworth currently plays to a 3.3 handicap, which is great. His last three rounds were 81, 74, 79, 77 and 78, showing good consistency. His lowest score in his last 20 rounds was a solid 73, just barely over par.
Whitworth is the only Rams player in the field and is one of just 19 active players taking part in the event. Other notable players teeing it up include Michael Strahan, DeMarcus Ware, Patrick Peterson, Jerry Rice, Aaron Rodgers, Larry Fitzgerald, Tony Romo, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Charles Barkley, Adam Thielen and Derek Carr.

Mardy Fish won the event last year after Romo claimed the title in 2018 and 2019. Mark Mulder won it in each of the previous three years before that.
