Andrew Whitworth: I will attack this rehab ‘with all the passion I have’

Andrew Whitworth arrived in L.A. in 2017 and immediately became a leader in the Rams’ locker room. Sean McVay has marveled at not only his talent level but also his leadership countless times in the last three years.

He’s taken young players under his wing, become a mentor to Jared Goff and tied the entire team together with all the experience he’s gained across 15 years in the NFL. And while he’s accustomed to leading on the field, he’ll have to do so from the sideline for some time.

Whitworth suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s win over the Seahawks, and the initial prognosis is that he tore his MCL and damaged his PCL. An MRI will confirm the severity of the injury, but Whitworth will land on IR regardless.

He’s unsurprisingly remained optimistic and encouraged despite this adversity, writing a long message on Instagram about how he’s going to attack this rehab with everything he has.

Whitworth hasn’t missed a game due to injury since 2013 when he was with the Bengals. At 38 years old, and going on 39 next month, it’s unprecedented for him to even play at such a high level this late into his career.

It’ll be even more incredible if he’s able to recover from this devastating injury and play again for the Rams this season – which Ian Rapoport says there’s a chance he could.

Considering how dedicated he is to his craft and getting better – after all, he did turn his garage into a gym this offseason – no one will work harder to return than Whitworth.
