Andrew Whitworth doesn’t make it sound like a Bengals reunion would be possible

The Cincinnati Bengals reuniting with Andrew Whitworth sounds fun.

It’s just not practical.

Whitworth, set to be a free agent after three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, has made it clear his preference is to re-up with his current team.

“Hopefully, the opportunity will be here,” Whitworth said, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Gary Klein. “Obviously, anytime you’re a free agent, you’ve got to listen to everything and figure out what’s best for you. But of course, for me and my family, being a Ram would be No. 1, without question.”

Those Rams might just make it happen too given the problems up front.

Still, the Bengals bringing back Whitworth and letting him compete at left tackle or guard would be more about chemistry and leadership than it would be anything else. Bringing him back to mentor Jonah Williams sounds great.

But there’s an issue — mending fences isn’t easy. And this one might be irreparable anyway. Whitworth hasn’t been shy in saying the Bengals lowballed him. Even players like Carlos Dunlap have admitted letting him go was a turning point for the organization.

A Whitworth reunion sounds great. But the reality of the situation is quite a bit harsher, so it might end up being for the best he’s focused on re-upping with the Rams.
