Andrew Scott Stars As Anti-Hero Tom Ripley In Netflix Series

Netflix

Andrew Scott has taken on the challenging role of Tom Ripley in the new Netflix series 'Ripley,' showcasing his versatility as an actor. Known for his portrayal of a Bond villain in 'Spectre,' Scott shared that he prefers roles in the grey areas rather than purely evil characters. In 'Ripley,' he sees the titular character as an anti-hero, providing a complex perspective for viewers.

The eight-episode series, shot in black and white, is based on Patricia Highsmith's novel 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' and features a talented cast including Dakota Fanning and Johnny Flynn. Scott was drawn to the character of Ripley due to the opportunity to delve deeply into his psyche, with the character appearing in the majority of scenes.

Creator Steven Zaillian praised Scott's casting, citing his incredible range as an actor showcased in previous roles such as Moriarty in 'Sherlock' and the priest in 'Fleabag.' Fanning, who plays a key role in the series, highlighted the on-screen chemistry between her character and Scott's, emphasizing their ability to convey tension effectively.

'Ripley' offers a fresh take on the classic story, with Zaillian's unique vision bringing a visually striking and engaging narrative to the screen. The series has received positive reviews for its pacing, look, and respect for the source material.

Both Scott and Fanning chose not to reach out to the actors who previously portrayed their characters, opting to focus on their own interpretations. 'Ripley' is now available for streaming on Netflix, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in this dark and captivating tale of deception and intrigue.
