Andrew ordered to appear before Congress over Jeffrey Epstein links as King officially strips Prince title

At a glance

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been sent a letter summoning him to appear before the US Congress over his “long-standing friendship” with Jeffrey Epstein.

The Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee in the US has said they believe Andrew may have crucial information about the late paedophile’s co-conspirators and the enablers of his crimes.

It comes hours after the King formally removed his brother’s prince title and his HRH style.

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been summoned to appear before Congress over his “long-standing friendship” with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In a letter sent to the former Duke of York, Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee in the US said they believe he may also have crucial information about co-conspirators and enablers of Epstein’s crime.

It comes hours after The King formally removed Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s prince title and his HRH style.

The letter to Andrew, addressed to Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park, which he has agreed to leave, outlines his “close relationship” with Epstein and references a recently revealed 2011 email exchange in which Andrew told him “we are in this together”.

The committee said this “further confirms our suspicion that you may have valuable information about the crimes committed by Mr Epstein and his co-conspirators”, and asks for a response by November 20.

Charles officially stripped the title of ‘Prince’ from his brother by issuing a Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm a week after the changes were dramatically announced.

The Royal family’s reputation has been increasingly tarnished by Andrew’s relationship with Epstein, who was found dead in a prison cell in 2019.

Andrew has been dogged by allegations that he sexually abused Virginia Giuffre after she was trafficked by Epstein.

He has strenuously denied the allegations.

An entry in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record, by the Crown Office, was published on Wednesday. It read: “THE KING has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 3 November 2025 to declare that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘Royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince’.”

This week, a former top prosecutor called for the Metropolitan Police to reopen a probe into allegations disgraced Andrew sexually abused Ms Giuffre.

Scotland Yard probed allegations relating to Andrew and Epstein’s activities three times and opted not to investigate.

But the force said it is “actively looking” into claims that the royal tried to use his taxpayer-funded bodyguard to smear his accuser Ms Giuffre.

It was claimed last month that Andrew had asked his Met Police bodyguard to investigate Ms Giuffre and passed over confidential information about her.

An email obtained by the Mail on Sunday exposed that Andrew handed over Ms Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number to be investigated.

Further questions were also raised recently about when Andrew ended his friendship with Epstein, as an email revealed the pair had been in contact 12 weeks after the royal was said to have cut contact with the paedophile.

Meanwhile, the eyes of the world continue to be fixed on the Royal Lodge after the news Andrew is quitting the 30-room home in Windsor for private accommodation on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
