Andrew Omobamidele ruled out of Portugal clash

Andrew Omobamidele has lost his fitness battle ahead of tonight’s clash with Portugal and won’t feature for Ireland.

The Norwich City defender missed last night’s training session at Aviva Stadium because of an achilles injury he picked up against Brentford last Saturday.

And the 19-year-old has not been included in Ireland’s official 23-man matchday squad submitted to UEFA today.

West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby also misses out because of a hamstring injury while Daryl Horgan has been omitted from the 23.

Stephen Kenny could hand Burnley defender Nathan Collins a first competitive start at centre-back alongside Shane Duffy and John Egan.

Captain Seamus Coleman could also start in a back three but there is a suggestion that he could be held in reserve for Sunday’s game against Luxembourg.

Kenny admitted last week that Everton defender Coleman was unlikely to start both games because of his recurring hamstring issues.
