Andrew Neil quits as GB News presenter and chairman

Andrew Neil has confirmed he has resigned as chairman of GB News.

The 72-year-old broadcaster made an official statement on his departure on Monday evening.

He said on Twitter: "It’s official: I have resigned as Chairman and Lead Presenter of GB News."

A spokesperson for the channel earlier told Guido Fawkes that the board had accepted his resignation, the Mirror reported.

They told the publication: "This is to let you know that the board has accepted Andrew Neil’s resignation as chairman today and agreed that he will step down as a presenter of GB News.

"He will continue to appear as a twice-weekly commentator, starting tonight on Nigel’s (Farage) show.

"Andrew said he is sorry to leave but that after reflection during the summer he feels it’s time to reduce his many commitments."

The channel was launched on June 13 with Mr Neil presenting a programme called Welcome to GB News. He was due to lead the evening line-up with the prime time news and interview programme 'Andrew Neil'.

A post on the GB News Twitter account said: "Our Chairman and Presenter Andrew Neil has stepped down from his roles at GB News and will instead appear as a regular guest commentator on our shows."
