Andrew Neil has 'no news' on whether Boris Johnson will be interviewed by him

Andrew Neil said he has no news to share when asked whether he would be conducting an interview with Boris Johnson in the run up to the general election.

The veteran broadcaster has already grilled the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, while an interview with Jo Swinson of the Lib Dems is set to air tonight.

However, the BBC has not confirmed a date with the prime minister, despite there now being just days left until the December 12 vote.

After sharing details of his BBC One interview with Ms Swinson tonight, Mr Neil was asked: "What news on Boris Johnson?"

To this he simply replied: "None."

Speaking to Andrew Marr on Sunday, Mr Johnson refused to commit as to whether he would face a showdown with Mr Neil.

Appearing on the Andrew Marr show, Mr Johnson claimed he was "perfectly happy to be interviewed by any interviewer called Andrew from the BBC”.

However, he said he had taken part in many interviews during the campaign, adding that “no previous prime minister has done one-on-one TV debates”.

It is not the first time Mr Johnson has been accused of avoiding scrutiny in this campaign.

He faced criticism after he refused to appear on Channel 4 News's climate change debate last week.

During that broadcast he and Nigel Farage - also a no show - were replaced with melting ice sculptures.

The BBC has also been questioned over its decisions to air other party leaders' interviews before having secured the PM.
