Andrew McGinley hits back after vicious trolls leave cruel comment about family

Andrew McGinley has thanked people for their "kindness and support" after a cruel comment was left on the social media account dedicated to his children.

His kids - Conor, nine, Daragh, seven and Carla, three - sadly died in January last year.

They were killed by their mother Deirdre Morley, who was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity earlier this year.

Andrew has been keeping his children's memories alive in various ways since they died, including with an active social media account 'Conor's Clips'.

However, in response to a post on Twitter, one person left a reply which led to an outpouring of support for the brave dad.

But the post was not found to violate the social media company's rules on content that can be posted on the site.

Thousands of people showed their support for Andrew online, with many encouraging him to ignore the trolls and continue posting pictures celebrating his children's lives.

One person said: "Don’t let one bitter, anonymous Twitter account get you down Andrew. Just know the 100’s of supportive people vastly outweigh one troll. Stay strong."

A second wrote: "Thank you for sharing your memories stay strong don’t let the nasties get to you."

A third commented: "Ignore the troll Andrew. What you are doing is a wonderful tribute to your beautiful children. We are privileged that you share them with us, thank you! Keep doing what you do, stay strong, we are all here for you."

In a post on Conor's Clips, Andrew thanked everyone for their thoughtful messages.

He said: "Thank you all so much for your kindness and support.

"If you’ve watched any of Conor’s Clips on YouTube, you’ll know that the kids wanted to be 'on the internet'.

"Therefore this is their account. I do this because I know they would want this. Thanks again."

Speaking over the weekend, he explained that all of his efforts since the tragic passing of his kids have been to "keep their memories alive".

"Shortly after the children passed, I began thinking about the last time I held them, the last time I talked to them, the last time I kissed them and I suppose the last promises I made to them that I hadn't got around to keeping," he said.

"I am looking forward to throwing myself, for the rest of my days, into keeping their memories alive."
