Andrew Marr shares tragic news his dad's died and he'll miss Sunday's show

Andrew Marr's father Donald Marr has died.

The BBC host, 60, revealed the heartbreaking news on Twitter on Friday night and shared that Nick Robinson will present The Andrew Marr show on Sunday whilst he takes time out to be with his family.

The political journalist penned on the micro-blogging site: "Good luck and thanks Nick Robinson for taking over Sunday’s show. My lovely dad has just died and I am out of action."

Following the sad announcement, the broadcaster was sent a number of kind messages were posted to him on social networking platform.

Naga Munchetty, who presents BBC Breakfast typed: "Sending love and condolences x."

Julia Hartley-Brewer added: "I’m so sorry Andrew. My condolences. X"

Scott Bryan also reached out by writing: "Sorry to hear that Andrew."

Nick, who is stepping in for Andrew over the weekend, re-posted Andrew's Tweet and added: "Sad news. All my thoughts are with Andy and his family."

The BBC Politics Twitter account also announced that Nick would be hosting Andrew's show this week as well as the line-up.

The tweet read: " #marr this Sunday with @bbcnickrobinson @MattHancock and @JonAshworth Professor Peter Piot @ONS National Statistician, Sir Ian Diamond Kristin Scott Thomas & Sir Nicholas Hytner News review: @Laura_K_Hughes & @BBCHughPym 9am @BBCOne."
