Andrew Marr hosts last BBC show today - and 'will discuss Boris Johnson's worst week'

Andrew Marr will host his last BBC Sunday show today - after presenting the must-watch politics programme for 16 years.

Mr Marr looks ready to discuss Boris Johnson's 'worst week as Prime Minister' and in particular his bombshell by-election defeat in North Shropshire.

He tweeted on Friday: "Thoughtful of Boris Johnson and the Lib Dems to arrange a little something to talk about for my final outing on BBC television on Sunday. Thanks, all!"

The PM was dealt a heavy blow to his premiership, as he lost the Tory safe seat of North Shropshire to the Lib Dems.

Today, he will be joined by Health Secretary Sajid Javid, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and actor David Tennant.

Mr Marr announced his departure from the BBC last month, having worked at the broadcaster for 21 years.

Initially he said he planned to focus on writing for newspapers while presenting political and cultural shows.

On Twitter the veteran broadcaster said he was looking forward to having greater freedom to express himself outside of the BBC's strict impartiality rules.

It was later revealed he would move to The New Statesman as their chief political commentator.

Mr Marr's departure comes days after broadcast heavyweight Adam Boulton left Sky News.

On Mr Boulton's final show, he described the Prime Minister as "bad for democracy".
