Andrew Lynch retires from the saddle after shoulder injury

Jockey Andrew Lynch has announced his retirement from the saddle at the age of 36.

The Co Meath rider enjoyed incredible success over the years, partnering the likes of Sizing Europe and Flemenstar, and rode 20 Grade 1 winners between 2007 and 2015.

The four-time Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey suffered a shoulder injury at the Dublin Racing Festival in February 2019 and had hoped to return to action, but has now confirmed that he has been forced to retire on medical grounds.

Lynch partnered top two-mile chaser Sizing Europe to a number of big races successes, including a Queen Mother Champion Chase, Arkle Trophy, Tingle Creek, and two Punchestown Champion Chases.

He also rode Flemenstar to all ten of his racecourse victories, including the 2012 John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown.
