Andrew Luck’s calf injury has turned into an ankle injury

After news broke Tuesday morning that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been dealing with a bone issue as well as his calf injury, general manager Chris Ballard called a press conference to address the issue and give some clarity.

Ballard said the diagnosis of the injury has changed from a calf strain to an injury on the front of the ankle.

Ballard also wouldn’t comment on what the timeline will be like for Luck to return to the field. He told reporters the team will switch up the rehab and was noncommital on the 29-year-old being ready for the first week of the season when the Colts travel to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 8.

Ballard also mentioned that surgery is not planned for Luck.

The quarterback will need a certain amount of practice in order to be ready for the regular-season opener, Ballard said, but the Colts are simply taking it day by day.

This certainly isn’t great news for Luck. He’s unlikely to play in the preseason and his progress will be something to monitor leading up to the regular season, the beginning of which has now come into question.
