Andrew Luck ‘getting to be a regular guy again’ this offseason

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is coming off of the most efficient season of his career and now gets to enjoy an offseason without some sort of drama for the first time in years.

Over the past two offseasons that Chris Ballard has been general manager, he’s had to keep in contact with Luck in regards to his shoulder rehab and day-to-day feelings.

However, finally with a normal offseason, Luck and Ballard haven’t been in contact since the 2018 campaign ended. And that’s a good thing.

“I’m not going to lie to you all. I have not talked to Andrew in a month and a half,” Ballard told 1070 The Fan this week. “That’s a complete flip from my first two years on the job. He’s getting to be a regular guy again, which is good.”

Having dealt with injuries for the majority of his recent offseasons, Luck gets a clean slate in 2019. For the first time in what seems like forever, the 29-year-old can progress through the spring months with normality.

Luck somewhat detailed what that might be like for him when the offseason first began, and it included taking some time off from throwing.

“I’ll be honest, I probably won’t throw for a while. There will be tweaks,” Luck told the Indy media in January. “There will be changes to what I do but all of it geared to one, make me as happy as possible and two, set me up to improve as a quarterback and improve as a person.”

Luck finished the 2018 season completing 67.5 percent of his passes for 4,593 yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions to go along with a career-high 98.7 passer rating.

It also included a career-high 639 pass attempts in the regular season, which jumps up to 707 when including the two playoff games.

Luck finally gets an offseason to be a normal NFL player, which should put some fear into his opponents for the 2019 season.
