Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Show Must Go On series: The Phantom of the Opera is latest show to be streamed for free

The Phantom of the Opera will be the next Andrew Lloyd Webber musical to be streamed online for free as part of The Shows Must Go On Series.

It is the latest production announced as part of the initiative to make shows from Lloyd Webber’s back catalogue available to home audiences while London’s theatres are closed.

The broadcast will be of a special version of the show recorded for its 25th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011, starring Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine. The unique staging of the show featured a cast and orchestra of over 200, and a number of special guest appearances.

It will be available to watch on The Shows Must Go On YouTube channel from 7pm on Friday 17 April and UK audiences will have 24 hours to watch the production.

The musical, which premiered in 1986 and is the West End’s longest-running musical after Les Mis, tells the story of a masked musical genius who lives underneath a Paris opera house and falls in love with a beautiful soprano.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar were the first two productions to be streamed as part of the series, both racking up 2.3 million viewers.
