Top Gear presenter Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff was airlifted to hospital after being involved in a serious accident while working on the show.

The accident reportedly took place while Flintoff was telling BBC cameras his opinion of a car. The injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Following the crash, a source told The Sun : "Freddie is in hospital after a crash on Top Gear. He was driving on the track as normal. He wasn't going at high speeds - it was just an accident that could happen to anyone.

"All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too. Freddie was taken to hospital by air ambulance shortly afterwards.

"His injuries are not life-threatening and he is receiving treatment. Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering."

A BBC spokesperson said: "Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning - with crew medics attending the scene immediately.

"He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course."

Today, Flintoff's son Corey has spoken to the mail online about the incident. The Flintoff family has been left shocked by the accident, with Corey revealing that his father was lucky to be alive.

""He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.

"It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK."

Flintoff rose to fame as a member of the England cricket team in the 2000's. The all-rounder was a popular member of the team and played a key role in the 2005 Ashes win over Australia.

The 45-year-old transitioned to television towards the end of his cricketing days and has gone on to be just as popular as a TV personality as he was as a cricketer. Since 2010, he has been a member of the popular show A league of their own alongside Jamie Redknapp and James Corden.

Flintoff took on the role of Top Gear in 2019 and hosts the show alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
