Andrew Considine reckons World Cup return would trump Euro 2020 triumph

Andrew Considine reckons qualifying for the next World Cup would be an even bigger achievement than making Euro 2020.

Scotland have their place in this summer’s finals in the bag and embark on their World Cup qualifying campaign this week with a triple-header against Austria, Israel and the Faroe Islands.

Considine knows back-to-back qualifications would take things to another level.

To do that, they need a top-two finish in a group that is completed by Denmark and Moldova.

The Aberdeen defender said: “It would probably mean even more to play at a World Cup than this summer. It would be absolutely huge for all the boys, for everybody in the country. It would be incredible to be involved.

“I remember watching the last World Cup we were at as a young lad, so you can see how much it means to everybody. Fingers crossed.”

Considine has been a late bloomer on the international front, having come in at the end of the Nations League campaign, but is determined to make up for lost time.

The 33-year-old said: “First and foremost, I’m delighted to be involved with the squad again. I was delighted when I got the message.

“Experiences like that at my age are fantastic, well I suppose at any age. I’m delighted to be involved and the competition for places is brilliant. The names you see are great and there are a couple of new faces.

“I want to be involved as much as I can but it’s a big squad. If called, I’ll be ready.”
