Andrew Considine handed Aberdeen contract promise as Stephen Glass delivers injury update

Stephen Glass has confirmed Aberdeen will look after Andrew Considine and extend the defender’s contract beyond the end of the season.

The centre-back will be out until next year after suffering a knee injury in the Europa Conference League defeat to Qarabag.

The 34-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Dons boss Glass said: “He’s a great servant to the club and I’m sure the club will look after him. We’re thinking he will still be playing for us as well.

“If you start answering questions like that it looks like you’re jumping the gun. The important thing is Andy has got his space and the time to get himself fit and back playing.

“He has been an unbelievable servant to the club for 20 years and I don’t see any reason for that to stop.”

Glass has confirmed the Dons star is making quicker than expected progress in his fight to get fit.

The Scotland cap is now off the crutches and slowly upping his rehabilitation.

He added: “It was maybe a week to 10 days ago I was asking him how he was getting on and there was a crutch sitting at the side. He said the aim for the day was to get off the crutches.

“I saw him the next day and they were gone.

“Nothing surprises you with Andy. He has his timescale and keeps trying to move the goal-posts with Stoksey (Adam Stokes, Head of Medicine and Football Science).”

The Dons haven’t won a game or kept a clean sheet since Considine was injured. And Glass said: “Andy is a big miss.

“We’ve had the young players in meetings where we’re doing coaching stuff with the defensive groups.

“We have Andy in among it as we know he’s doing his coaching stuff as well. It’s important for Andy to feel he’s still part of things – which he is.”
