TAMPA, Fla. _ Andrei Vasilevskiy has been perfect in just over two games. He recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season on Thursday and Saturday.
The Lightning beat the Montreal Canadiens, 3-0, as Vasilevskiy made 20 saves on Saturday.
The last time Vasilevskiy gave up a goal was to Sean Monahan in the third period of Tuesday's win over Calgary. He's been perfect in the last 125:49, including shutting out Dallas on Thursday, making 56 saves.
Saturday's game started out a goalie duel between Carey Price and Vasilevskiy, the old guard and new guard of the NHL's top goalies. In the end, Vasilevskiy was the victor.
The Lightning went 41:44 without a goal, then scored two in a 1:25 span. Nikita Kucherov struck first (his 93rd point), at 2:16 of the second period. Just after Carey Price made a save on a nice one-timer from Kucherov, the league's point leader came back with another. This one went over Price, off the underneath of the crossbar.
Yanni Gourde added the second. Erik Cernak started the play, tipping the puck away in the neutral zone. Point sent it up to Gourde, sending him on a breakaway. Gourde released the wristshot from above the hashmarks, hitting the top left corner.
Two goals were overturned in the game, one from each team. First, Brett Kulak's goal was overturned for offsides in the second period for Montreal. Then Tyler Johnson was ruled to have interfered with Price on his tip of Victor Hedman's shot in the third.
Johnson got his goal back, however. He scored a wrist shot from the left hashmark with 3:14 to go.
