Andreas Pereira's father reveals details of Solskjaer conversation over new Man United contract

Andreas Pereira's father has revealed that it was a conversation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his long-term plans that convinced the Brazilian to sign a new contract at Manchester United.

The midfielder agreed terms on a new four year deal earlier in the summer despite only starting six times in the league last season.

However, his father Marcos has explained Solskjaer told the 23-year-old he has a big future at the club and that persuaded him to put pen to paper on a new deal.

"The trainer spoke to Andreas and told him that his future is in Manchester. We could agree with his plan. The goal is to now secure a first-team spot. He is now 23, which is a mature age [for a footballer]," Pereira's father told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad (via Sport Witness).

Pereira was handed a surprise start in the opening game of the new Premier League season against Chelsea and while his performance wasn't exceptional he did record an assist in the second half.

And he told South China Morning Post after the game that there's more to come from him this season.

“I feel stronger than ever and more confident under this manager," he said. "We have to keep our feet on the ground and work hard. I feel great, we feel great to win like this at home but we play Wolves next, a team who beat us twice last season.

"We can't do that again. We made mistakes there and we made mistakes today. We will improve, but today wasn’t bad was it?”
