Andreas Pereira names preferred Manchester United position

Andreas Pereira has admitted he prefers to operate in a more advanced midfield role, after playing in a variety of positions for Manchester United this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put a huge amount of faith in the Brazilian this term, with Pereira starting 12 Premier League games after the sale of Ander Herrera and with Paul Pogba injured.

The 23-year-old even stepped into a defensive midfield role for recent games against Sheffield United and Aston Villa as Scott McTominay was out injured.

“You have to help the team out and we didn't have Scotty because he was injured,” Pereira told United’s official website about the change in midfield, which saw him partnered with fellow countryman Fred.

“I had played central midfield and I hadn't played there for a long time but I tried to do my best for the team.

“Anytime, I will do it to help the manager and the team get results and get better."

Pereira then explained that he wants a more attacking role and added that he is desperate to repay Solskjaer for the faith the Norwegian has shown in him.

In pre-season, Solskjaer name-checked McTominay and Pereira as the two players who would step up after Herrera's exit and has been true to his word.

Pereira added: “Of course, my natural role is more attacking but I'll play anywhere the manager wants.

"I have to repay his faith every time I'm on the pitch. I am very thankful for what he did for me and is doing every day. He knows my qualities and knows why I'm in the first team and he puts me in to play.

"It feels very good to have the trust of him and all the staff.”
