Andreas Pereira explains how he can thrive for Manchester United

Andreas Pereira believes he can thrive for Manchester United in games where they dominate possession, after starring in the 3-0 League Cup victory over Colchester.

The Brazilian registered one of his best performances of the season, in a deep-lying midfield position, at Old Trafford.

It's been a mixed season for Pereira, though he's retained the faith of manager and is pushing for a recall to United's Premier League side after sitting out three recent contests.

"I enjoy it a lot," Pereira told MUTV when asked about playing in midfield when United are asked to break defensive teams down.

"When we have the ball and can keep possession, that's where my qualities are. So I'm happy I could help the team a lot today.

"I'm very very happy now at this moment [at United], my family are happy. The manager has the confidence in me and I just want to show that on the pitch."

Although United have struggled at times this season when asked to play through inferior sides, Pereira urged his teammates to remain patient in such contests. They reaped their rewards with a clinical 10-minute spell against Colchester.

"Until we got the first goal, we had to be careful, it could be a dangerous game," Pereira added.

"But we did well, once we got the first goal we got the second one and the third one.

"You have to be patient, keep the ball moving from side to side, keep looking for a forward pass to finish it off and that's what we did and it worked out for us."
