Andreas Christensen scores his first-ever goal for Chelsea fulfilling a remarkable stat in the process

What a journey that Andreas Christensen has had. Joining Chelsea at the age of 16 and ten years later, finally scoring his first goal for the Blues. It’s been a romantic tale so far.

Last night, Christensen and his teammates celebrated his first goal together and it was just such a lovely sight to see.

He was on the end of Thiago Silva’s cross into the box where he forced the ball past the keeper to give Chelsea the lead. Not bad for a player who is currently negotiating terms for a new contract to tie him down to the Blues for a few more years.

Christensen's first goal came after ex Danish football legend, now Malmo’s manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson showered him with praise in his pre-match conference.

The Dane said: “He’s had a great journey and has done tremendously well. The way he’s playing and the way he’s been playing here under the new manager, he’s been a great inspiration for a lot of Danish people.

“And not only the Danish people but also for a lot of Chelsea fans – he’s a top-class defender.”

The journey for Christensen began in 2012 when he signed for Chelsea at the age of 15. His professional debut came at the age of 17 where he played as right back in Chelsea's fourth-round league cup match against Shrewsbury Town.

His consistent perseverance to produce excellent performances week in week out has finally been rewarded with a goal. It has only taken 137 games (the longest time for any Chelsea player) for it to happen but he got there in the end.

Scoring under the UCL lights was not the only achievement made by Christensen last night. The clean sheet king struck again. He now has 42 clean sheets in his last 52 appearances for club and country. What a ridiculous statistic! His influence as a defender is undoubtedly remarkable.

As contract talks are still happening between the Danish international and the club, Chelsea faithful’s will be hoping that Christensen is given more opportunities to score more goals as a Chelsea player.
