Andrea Pirlo slams Divock Origi and says players should have given him a "kicking"

Andrea Pirlo has slammed Divock Origi's performance for Liverpool in the Champions League final, saying he was "awful".

The AC Milan legend took aim at the striker following the Reds' 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid on Saturday night, saying if it wasn't for his goal he should have got a "kicking" from his team-mates.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool from the penalty spot in just the second minute after Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko handled in the area.

Liverpool had to wait until the second half to double their advantage, and it was the hero from the semi-final victory over Barcelona who came up trumps again.

Origi slotted past Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris with just three minutes of the match to play, effectively putting the final to bed.

But despite the Belgian rubbing stamping the result, Pirlo wasn't impressed.

"Divock Origi was awful," the Italian said on Sky Sport Italia. "He came on in such an important game with that attitude.

"If he hadn't scored, they should've given him a kicking."

Origi, meanwhile, was in good spirits, and told Viasport: "It's very emotional, it's something you work so hard for.

"It's special for the club, the team, the staff, the players, everyone. The more you grow up you know life is not always easy but you have to keep fighting in difficult moments.

"I've been getting more and more playing time to help the team and eventually that's what I tried to do.

"Whenever I start or come in I try to shine my light and believe in myself, today again I'm happy that I could help the team win this game."
