Andrea Pirlo sends a message to Liverpool about Anfield after AC Milan legends game

Andrea Pirlo admitted it was "fantastic" to play at Anfield in AC Milan legends' charity match against Liverpool on Saturday.

The two clubs faced off on Merseyside this weekend, where they helped raise around £1million for the LFC Foundation.

The match was a close affair for the most part with Liverpool taking a two-goal lead before AC Milan battled back to draw level.

Unfortunately for the Italian side they were unable to achieve what Liverpool managed in the 2005 Champions League final by coming from behind to win the match.

And it was Steven Gerrard who had the final say, with the Rangers manager netting a late goal to win the match for the Reds 3-2.

After the contest Pirlo reflected on the occasion and had some kind words to say about Liverpool's Anfield home as well as the Reds fans.

"It was very beautiful to play [here]. The atmosphere is always fantastic," said the World Cup winner. "It was fantastic to play today."

Pirlo scored for AC Milan on the day, and admitted he enjoyed hitting the back of the net at Anfield.

"I liked to score in the same situation in my career," he added: "Scoring in Anfield is always a good sensation. I am happy - not about the result but it was for charity."
