Andrea Pirlo's Celtic masterclass as former Juventus team-mate details Scott Brown 'humiliation'

The days of Celtic mixing it with Europe's giants on the biggest stage feel a long way off at the moment following their meek Europa League exit.

Though they did face Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Milan it's a Rossoneri side in a rebuilding phase and not the force that regularly locked horns with the Hoops in the mid-2000s.

The stylish heartbeat of that side was the legendary Andrea Pirlo, and he was on the opposite side the last time Celtic made it to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

This time Neil Lennon's side faced Juventus, losing 5-0 over two legs.

Celtic had beaten Barcelona in the group stage and put up a fight in the first leg against Antonio Conte's men but were ultimately undone by the quality of the opposition.

If you looked up the word "quality" in the football dictionary you'd probably find Pirlo's picture beside it and the former midfielder is now in the Juve hotseat.

And one former team-mate believes the legendary playmaker's mix of talent and fearlessness was best shown at Parkhead back in 2013 in a clash with Scott Brown.

Goalkeeper Rubinho told JuveNews24: "I have so many memories with Andrea.

"He played with my brother (Ze Elias) at Inter and then in the years at Juve we formed a true friendship.

"I remember in one training session he tried to do a Panenka against me so, to make fun of him, I saved it with my chest.

"He said to me, 'bravo, bravo I couldn't fool you'.

"Then with the next penalty he stuck it in the top corner and said, 'go on then, try and save that'.

"That's how it was, I'd tease him and he would tease me too.

"Then there's another incident that comes to mind. We were playing in Glasgow against Celtic and they pressed us a lot when we played out from the back.

"Their captain (Brown) gave Pirlo a kick the first time he got it.

"Andrea wasn't intimidated though, quite the opposite.

"Throughout the game he humiliated him as though thinking, 'fine, you got me once - let's see if you can do it again'.

"As a player he was just absurd."
