Andrea McLean returns to host Loose Women after tearfully quitting live on air

Loose Women star Andrea McLean has returned to host the show after tearfully quitting the show on air on Monday.

Her co host Janet Street Porter announced that she was going to explain what had gone on after the cameras had switched off after Andrea had quit, later on in the show.

Andrea, 51, sobbed as she explained she was leaving the show after Christmas, having hosted the panel show for 13 years.

She was replaced by Ruth Langsford on Tuesday and filmed a video crying in her car as she explained she wanted to forge a new career supporting women.

Andrea had explained that she wanted to help more women and that she was taking a risk with a new career path.

Andrea's website explained that she intends to create a membership service where she can support women with their mental health and confidence.

Andrea had her co hosts Linda Robson, Brenda Edwards and Saira Khan also in tears as she made her emotional speech.

The panel had been discussing whether the pandemic had changed their perspective on life; Andrea said it really had for her.

"You get one life, are you living it the way that you want? Are you doing everything you want to do? Are you being brave? Are you taking chances?

"And I realised - no," she said, as she broke down in tears. "Oh my goodness, I didn't mean to cry, I am so sorry."

"Oh don't Andrea, I know what you're going to say," said Linda.

"I want to be brave, all the incredible feedback I've had from my book and the support I was able to give, I want to bring it to life.

"It was a really dig decision to jump to see if I fall or if I fly. And I just knew I would never know if I never tried.

"So I am saying goodbye to Loose Women."

* Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12:30pm

But she was back for Wednesday's show alongside her co hosts Janet, Judi Love and Stacey Solomon.
