Andre Villas-Boas' agent in Celtic U-turn as he refuses to rule out a move

Andre Villas-Boas' agent has refused to rule out a move to Celtic for his client after earlier claiming a deal wouldn't happen.

Jean-Paul Lares stated the former Chelsea boss had no interest in heading to Scotland before later softening his stance.

Villas Boas remains one of the bookies favourite to become Celtic's next permanent manager to replace Brendan Rodgers.

However, Neil Lennon remains in pole position position and the interim boss will only strengthen his position if he can secure the treble Treble.

But the comments from Lares, a short time after his initial statement, are sure to raise eyebrows.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Andre has the deepest affection for both Scotland and the Scottish people and the fondest memories of the time he spent there.

“But we have received no offers from Scottish clubs and no decision has been made on his future, so there’s no way a valid comment can be made on this subject.”

That was a remarkable turnaround after Lares had earlier said: "André will not be working in Scotland in the foreseeable future and will not be available for comment.”

Meanwhile, Roberto Martinez's agent insists he won’t be the next Celtic boss despite also being a bookies favourite.

The Spaniard is in charge of FIFA world ranking table-toppers Belgium but that didn’t stop a flood of bets being placed on him.

The former Motherwell player was cut to odds-on favourite and was still neck and neck with interim boss Neil Lennon.

But his representative Jesse de Preter dubbed the switch “a false rumour”.

He said: “It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife and ties to the country. However, there’s nothing to see here and I would suggest the bookies review their odds.”
