Andre Iguodala nixes talk of Durant, Thompson going to New York

After a tumultuous end to the Golden State Warriors’ 2018-19 season, which included injuries to two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant (ruptured Achilles) and All-Star Splash Brother Klay Thompson (torn ACL), the Warriors have turned their attention to shoring up its depleted roster.

With Durant ruled out for the entirety of the 2019-20 season and Thompson expected to miss a significant portion of the season, the Warriors scooped up Jordan Poole with the No. 28 overall pick in this year’s draft and Alen Smailagic at No. 39. The Warriors also inked Jimmer Fredette to a Summer League deal and signed Ky Bowman to a one-year contract.

But NBA free agency looms, with both Durant and Thompson able to explore other options. Durant has declined his player option while Thompson expressed concern during the MRI on his knee about how the injury might impact his free agency. Both superstars have been the subjects of rumors about their possible future horizons, but teammate Andre Iguodala calls B.S.

The 2015 Finals MVP and former Sixth Man of the Year has been on tour to promote his new memoir, Sixth Man, and said today on CNBC, according to Spike Eskin, “Nobody’s going to the Knicks, sorry.”

The notoriously cryptic Iguodala has planted a nugget left up to interpretation: Although it may be true that no one is going to the Knicks, does this leave the door open for players going elsewhere? Does this mean Durant, specifically, isn’t going to the Knicks but, say, the Nets?

Come July 1, the questions will start to be answered and the shape of the Warriors’ roster will start to become clear.
