Andre Gray opens up on Watford's Wembley thrashing against Man City

Andre Gray insists Watford’s Wembley thrashing will not ruin their season overall.

Watford were subjected to the heaviest FA Cup final defeat since Bury beat Derby 6-0 in 1903 as they were horribly outclassed by Treble-winning Manchester City .

But Watford have still achieved their best ever finish in the Premier League - 11th - and reached their first FA Cup final since 1984.

Watford striker Gray said: “It’s been the best season in the club’s history. We deserved to be here today. So did City. We’ve been two of the best teams in the FA Cup. But we’ve come up short.

“We know how far ahead of us they are. It’s not rocket science to see that. We just need to try to step up and push on from there next season.

“We’re all disappointed. It’s hard to put into words really. We got battered in the end. The scoreline doesn’t lie.

“It’s hard for the manager to say. Difficult for anyone to say. There’s nothing for anyone to say. Everybody knows we got battered. We lost to a better team.

“Fortunately, now we’ve got the summer and then obviously pre-season. There’s a lot of time to dust ourselves down and forget about it.

“We’re professionals, we want to be better next season, learn from this and move on.”

Gray also admitted that what should have been the proudest day for many of the Watford players will be a day they cannot bear to ever look back and watch again.

He added: “I don’t think I will ever watch it again. It’s hard to sit there.

“We got blown away. Maybe. We just want to forget about it.”
