Andre Gomes sends touching message after spending day with Everton fan battling cancer

Andre Gomes admits he has been 'inspired' by an Everton supporter currently battling pancreatic cancer.

Gomes, who returned to training this week after fracturing his ankle in the draw with Tottenham Hotspur in November, spent Saturday afternoon visiting Ashley, a fan from Hereford, while Carlo Ancelotti took his side to Watford.

The 26-year-old midfielder then posted to social media to reveal he will 'never forget' the trip.

"Today I had the opportunity to surprise Ashley, his beloved family and some of his friends," Gomes wrote.

"We had such an amazing day together. Ashley is a huge Evertonian and unfortunately he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I've heard of his story and situation. You inspired me and I will never forget this time we had together.

"Today we've won inside and outside the pitch! Congrats team for the fantastic comeback and thank you Ashley for your strength, courage and passion! I'll be here cheering up for you and your family. COME ON YOU BLUE[S]."
