Andre Gomes sends message to Everton fans after Liverpool stalemate

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes says he and his teammates performed well against Liverpool in the 202nd league derby between the two clubs.

Gomes and Tom Davies, who went close to scoring the winning goal when his shot was deflected onto the post off the leg of Joe Gomez, worked hard to compete with Liverpool's three-man midfield.

While Everton largely conceded possession to the visitors, Liverpool failed to produce many chances, and Carlo Ancelotti will be slightly frustrated that his side could not pick up all three points given the positions they found themselves in late on.

But Gomes was content with the result and was keen to praise his teammates for their efforts in the aftermath of the tie.

He tweeted : "Great to be back on the pitch and do what we all love.

"It has been a different derby, without our fans pushing from our stands, but we gave it all to make you feel proud! And never forget: #BlackLivesMatters!

"We competed at a high level and showed ambition to pursuit (sic) the victory till the end.

"Let's keep working and be ready for the next game."

Everton travel to Norwich City next, facing them at 6pm UK time on Wednesday night, before there is a full week between the end of that game and their next match, at home to Champions League-chasing Leicester City.
