Andre Gomes injury latest as Everton reveal 'little problem' for midfielder

Everton will continue to assess the fitness of Andre Gomes after the midfielder picked up a slight injury in the defeat to Newcastle United.

Gomes returned to the Blues' starting line-up for Sunday's game with Newcastle United but replaced on the hour mark after the hosts had taken the lead from a penalty the Portuguese had conceded.

Carlo Ancelotti has now revealed that Gomes came off having picked up a minor knee issue and though he hopes the problem will not rule him out of contention for Saturday's game with Manchester United, Everton will continue to monitor his progress this week.

Ancelotti said: “Andre had a little problem on his knee but it was nothing special, just a knock.”

Gomes struggled to make an impact against Newcastle and fouled Callum Wilson in the area to "gift" Newcastle the chance of an opening goal.

Everton were without James Rodriguez (haematoma), Seamus Coleman (hamstring) and Ben Godfrey (hamstring) due to injury on Sunday.

Ancelotti confirmed over the weekend that Jean-Philippe Gbamin is due back at Finch Farm following the international break later this month.
