Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has been discharged from hospital two days after breaking his ankle against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portugese underwent surgery on Monday on the fracture dislocation of his right ankle, an injury he sustained in the second half of Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw at Goodison Park following a challenge from Spurs’ Son Heung-min.
A statement from Everton on Twitter read: “Following a successful operation yesterday, Andre Gomes has now been discharged from hospital and will continue his rehabilitation under the care of our medical team.”
Gomes fell awkwardly after Son’s attempted tackle from behind, and the South Korea international – who was distraught after seeing the extent of the damage – received a red card.
Players from both teams were visibly upset after seeing the injury, and a number of Everton players reportedly consoled Son in the Tottenham dressing room after the match.
A statement from Everton on Monday said the operation had gone “extremely well” and that Gomes, 26, was expected to make a full recovery.
Gomes is likely to be out of action for six months at least, though may be sidelined for as long as a year.
