Andre Gomes breaks his silence following Son Heung-min challenge in Everton draw

Andre Gomes has sent his first message to fans following the broken ankle that he suffered in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

Making a move down the touchline with 11 minutes remaining, the Portuguese midfielder was left in agony following a challenge from Son Heung-min.

There was no intent or malice in the tackle from the South Korean ace but he was given a red card by referee Martin Atkinson, with his dismissal later overturned after a successful appeal from the club.

Taken straight to hospital following the challenge, Gomes underwent surgery on the fracture dislocation of his right ankle on Monday and it proved to be a success.

With the player receiving plenty of support following his injury, he has now sent his own message to football fans after returning home.

"Hi everyone, as you already know everything went well and I'm already at home with my family.

"I would like to thank you all for the support, messages and positive energy. Thank you," he said.

Everton boss Marco Silva has also issued an update on Gomes and revealed that the player did return to their USM Finch Farm training base on Tuesday.

Marco Silva reacts to Andre Gomes horror injury

“He is doing well. The surgery went really well and all the feedback we’ve had until now was really good,” he said, as reported by the Liverpool Echo .

“Andre is home now with all the support of our medical staff, he was with us here yesterday at Finch Farm.

“It was really good for everyone to see him, to have that first contact with him after that tough moment for all of us.

“Now is a moment for us to support him, to give all of our best to have Andre as soon as possible.

“Of course, we have to be patient but for sure the support everyone will give him and good work we should do as a club with our medical staff, rehab people as well, will create the conditions for Andre to be successful.”
