Andre Drummond drains 71-foot buzzer-beater for longest field goal since 2007

Andre Drummond was successful from 71 feet.

Andre Drummond isn’t famed for his shooting skills – the Detroit Pistons center is just a 35% free-throw shooter this year (last month he missed an NBA record 23 in one game), and is even worse – 17% – from shots in the 10-15 feet range.

But from 71 feet? He’s not too bad.

The 22-year-old attempted – and drained – the buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter during the Pistons’ game with the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. It was the longest field goal in the NBA since LeBron James’s effort in 2007.

Drummond’s three-pointer took the Pistons within five points of the Raptors, but if anything it inspired his opponents rather than his own team. Toronto ended up winning the game 103-89. “That shot could have gave them some momentum, but we had the ball coming up the court, and we had to be aggressive,” said the Raptors’ Kyle Lowry.

Drummond was the ninth-overall pick in the 2012 draft, and was named an All-Star for the first time this season.
