England laboured to a hugely unconvincing win over Andorra in 2026 World Cup qualifying. The Three Lions were overwhelming favourites to run up a big scoreline against Group K minnows at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona on Saturday evening, but instead delivered a massively ponderous performance in which they dominated possession but could not fashion many clear-cut opportunities against a team currently ranked at 173rd in the world by FIFA.
After a scoreless first half, England did eventually net the only goal of a drab game five minutes after the interval, man-of-the-match Noni Madueke teeing up captain Harry Kane for his 450th career effort that ultimately spared their blushes. Chances to double that advantage were surprisingly few and far between thereafter, bar an Eberechi Eze header that was tipped over by Iker Alvarez and a last-gasp muddle involving Madueke and Anthony Gordon.
It’s three wins from three for England to start both World Cup qualifying and the new Tuchel era, but they will need considerable improvement moving forward - starting against Senegal in Tuesday night’s friendly contest at the City Ground in Nottingham.

Andorra 0-1 England
18:53 , George FloodFull-time
Certainly not a game or an England performance that will live long in the memory.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:53 , George Flood93 mins: Andorra can’t make the most of one last opportunity before England then somehow don’t score at the death as Madueke and Gordon fail to combine.
That just about sums up their evening.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:50 , George Flood90 mins: Andorra have given England a few scares in this second half, but Guillaume Lopez’s cross from the byline is easily dealt with inside the box.
Morgan Gibbs-White is going to get the three minutes of stoppage time here in place of Bellingham.

It's been far from vintage, but it looks like England are going to get the job done.
Five minutes for England to find a second goal...
Andorra 0-1 England
18:45 , George Flood85 mins: Five minutes to go and this has all the feeling of a glorified pre-season friendly.
A lot of questions for England after this.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:42 , George Flood80 mins: Really poor from James as he leans back and fires the free-kick high into the stands.
Andorra boss Koldo Alvarez is now replacing Joel Guillen with Eric De las Heras.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:40 , George Flood79 mins: Jones and Rogers are replaced by Rice and Gordon as England win a free-kick in a dangerous area outside the box.
James and Alexander-Arnold are both standing over it.
James of course scored his first senior England goal with a brilliant free-kick against Latvia at Wembley in March.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:37 , George Flood75 mins: A scare for England with 15 minutes to go but Konsa is thankfully there to block inside the box from Guillaume Lopez, who had skipped past the rather laboured challenge of Burn after a lovely flick.
Chus Rubio and Marc Vales have replaced Biel Borra and Pau Babot.
Declan Rice and Anthony Gordon will both be on for England soon.

That's a brilliant save from the Andorra goalkeeper, denying Eze what would have been his second England goal in as many games.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:33 , George Flood73 mins: Chance for Eze to double the lead off the bench as his header from a cute Bellingham cross is tipped over by Iker Alvarez.
About as much invention as England have shown all evening.
More Andorra changes are coming now.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:30 , George Flood70 mins: Plenty of effort and endeavour in attacking areas from England and the likes of Bellingham and Madueke are still having their moments, but it’s all just very disjointed and disconnected in terms of finding that final ball.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:28 , George Flood67 mins: More joy for England with a few more corners after Marc Garcia makes a great sliding challenge in the box straight after coming on.
Alexander-Arnold with the deliveries but still England can’t find that second goal.

Alexander-Arnold could prove a valuable weapon, here.
England need someone passing from deep to open up Andorra, who are still happy to sit back after conceding.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:25 , George Flood64 mins: A couple of changes from Andorra now too with Marc Garcia and Guillaume Lopez replacing Aron Rodrigo and Ricard Fernandez.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:2463 mins: Eberechi Eze and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the first England substitutes summoned by Tuchel with just over 25 minutes to play.
Henderson and Palmer make way.
Andorra 0-1 England

Onus on England to find goals two and three now.
Important that they have the lead, but 1-0 against so lowly opposition would not be an acceptable scoreline for a side that has designs on winning the World Cup next summer.
England must kick on in the final half an hour in Barcelona.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:2162 mins: Kane tries to lob Iker Alvarez from distance but gets it all wrong and holds his hand up in apology.
Kane then picks out Madueke, who cuts inside off the left but his low strike lacks direction and is easily dealt with by Iker Alvarez.
Changes coming from both managers imminently.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:19 , George Flood60 mins: Another low England cross is played too close to Iker Alvarez.
At the other end, more problems posed by Ricard Fernandez, but England snuff it out.
He’s been Andorra’s most lively player on the few occasions they’ve come forward this evening.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:18 , George FloodHere is that opening England goal from Harry Kane in Barcelona.
A lovely ball from Curtis Jones to release Kane initially...

Andorra 0-1 England
18:1757 mins: Madueke remains England’s best player as he fizzes a low cross into the box after linking up nicely with Chelsea team-mate Palmer.
But again Iker Alvarez dives on it.
Andorra 0-1 England
18:16 , George Flood55 mins: Plenty of substitutes now warming up down that touchline as England push for a quick-fire second goal.
Kane looking more dangerous since opening the scoring, but an enticing ball into the box falls safe.

England finally have their goal - and no real surprise it has come courtesy of a Madueke assist. He's been England's brightest attacker.
GOAL! Andorra 0-1 England | Harry Kane 50'
18:09 , George Flood50 mins: A stretching Kane turns home Madueke's low cross at the back post and the deadlock is finally broken, five minutes after half-time.
Will the floodgates now open?
Andorra 0-0 England
18:08 , George Flood49 mins: Rogers, Madueke and Bellingham are the bright sparks again early in the second half for England.
But Madueke’s cross into the box from the byline is headed away by Christian Garcia.
Andorra 0-0 England
18:05 , George FloodBack underway in Barcelona.
No changes from Tuchel yet, but it won’t be long if his side don’t step this up quickly.
It’s Andorra straight on the attack in the second half but Ricard Fernandez gets it all wrong and fires towards the corner flag.

Goalless at half-time, and that's pretty poor from England against the nation ranked 173rd in the world.
More work to do from the Three Lions, who have been pretty dour in that opening half.
They need to move up a gear or three after the break.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:51 , George FloodHalf-time
Really slow and ponderous from under-par England, who look tired in the Spanish humidity at the end of a long and taxing season and after a gruelling-sounding training camp.
Very underwhelming stuff indeed against the Group K minnows ranked at 173rd in the world, who have defended diligently in that resolute low block.
Aside from a few straightforward Iker Alvarez saves, they haven’t been unduly troubled, which will surely infuriate Tuchel.
Much more needed.

Andorra 0-0 England
17:48 , George Flood47 mins: A chance for England right on the stroke of half-time as Bellingham’s glancing header from a Madueke cross is easily held by Iker Alvarez.
That will do us for a goalless first period - who saw that coming?
Andorra 0-0 England
17:48 , George Flood45 mins: An England error leads to Aron Rodrigo breaking for Andorra.
There’s a man he can play in ahead of him, but he doesn’t lift his head up in time and Henderson gets back to make the challenge.
Into one minute of added time at the end of this hugely frustrating first half for England.

Anyone watching this wondering what the Club World Cup will be like?
Players are going to be shattered by the end of that.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:4542 mins: It’s suddenly gone very flat indeed from England again with just a few minutes to go until the interval.
Andorra will be delighted to get in at half-time without conceding.
Not like they’ve had too many major scares yet either.

Very nice quick feet from Bellingham and Rogers in quick succession there, the sort of dribbling we're yet to see from England, really.
The lead still eludes them, with seven minutes to go before half-time.

Andorra 0-0 England
17:4138 mins: The ball won’t sit up kindly for Bellingham inside the box this time with Palmer also lurking.
Rogers embarks on another brilliant run towards the byline, but his cutback intended for Palmer is hacked away in the six-yard box.
Gorgeous skill from the Aston Villa man, who now misses the target with a poor effort.

Credit to Andorra, who are so far doing a good job of making this hard work for England.
You suspect, however, that they will start to tire, possibly even before half-time.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:3835 mins: Both sets of players are taking on water now and receiving instructions from their respective managers on the touchline after a clash of heads involving James.
Tuchel looks to be telling his side to move the ball quicker.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:37 , George Flood33 mins: More hopeful crosses into the Andorra box are repelled before the lively Madueke tees up Bellingham for a well-struck half-volley that is held by Iker Alvarez.
There was another VAR check for a potential England penalty for handball a few moments ago, but nothing given.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:3330 mins: A superb sliding challenge in the box from Christian Garcia on Kane - and he’s thrilled about it.
Half an hour gone and England are not impressing.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:32 , George Flood29 mins: England are quickly back monopolising possession but it’s all a bit ponderous and slow against this resolute low block.
James’ cross into the box from he left is headed away and the whistle has gone.
Bellingham has a bit too much to say to the referee and receives a warning.
A booking today would see him miss the home qualifier against Andorra at Villa Park in September.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:29 , George Flood27 mins: All very scrappy from England now and Andorra are seeing a good spell of the ball, particularly down their left flank.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:27 , George Flood25 mins: A disappointing free-kick is headed away by Bellingham before Biel Borra blasts well over from range.
You wonder if that’s as close as Andorra will come all evening.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:26 , George Flood23 mins: A little bit of frustration creeping in for England now with almost 25 minutes on the clock and no breakthrough despite their dominance in the Spanish heat.
James with a clumsy foul, and now one from Burn too on Ricard Fernandez - also known as Cucu.

What a ball that was from James to open up the Andorra defence.
There's a chance at the back post for Curtis Jones or Harry Kane if Jones's touch is decent, but it's a bit of a trampoline touch, and Kane eventually can't sort his feet out.
Better from England, who must take more risks.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:22 , George Flood18 mins: Kane scrambles a difficult ball wide after a heavy touch and set up from Jones that followed an enticing low delivery across the six-yard box from Madueke.
Teenage defender Biel Borra did just enough to keep Kane at bay in the first instance.
Fabulous pass from James to open Andorra up.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:20 , George Flood16 mins: The corners are really piling up for England now as Palmer does his best to find that perfect final ball.
It’s all a bit ragged in the box from Andorra, but they are just about managing to hold out at the moment.
Seven corners and counting for Tuchel’s men already.
Konsa goes to strike a volley on the turn but it’s blocked.

Andorra are doing a decent job of frustrating England at the moment.
But constant pressure on the edge of their box from England, who are patiently working it from left to right.
That will be the pattern of this game.

Andorra 0-0 England
17:1511 mins: Kane almost nicks in ahead of the last man before Rogers earns another England corner off Christian Garcia.
Palmer’s cross is headed away before Madueke’s hopeful strike through a crowd of bodies is parried clear by Iker Alvarez.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:12 , George Flood9 mins: All of England’s threat so far has come down the right flank, with Jones bombing forward and the likes of Rogers and Bellingham floating out to link the play and try to feed Kane.
Now Madueke is brought down on the left to give Palmer the chance to deliver a free-kick into the box, with Konsa claiming he was dragged down by Llovera.
Nothing given, with the Croatian referee backed up by a quick penalty check by the VAR.

Curtis Jones, as Tuchel said he would, is playing incredibly high up the pitch when England have the ball.
At times, he's ahead of Bellingham and Palmer.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:09 , George Flood6 mins: A lovely run down the England right from Rogers, with a deft flick from Bellingham then teeing up Kane, whose driven effort is blocked off the chest of Max Llovera before Andorra scramble clear.
Andorra 0-0 England
17:07 , George Flood4 mins: England are absolutely dominating possession already here, as you might expect.

A reminder that England are playing Andorra in Barcelona because the principality recently hosted the 'Games of the Small States of Europe', meaning no stadiums in Andorra were available for use for this game.
I believe that, having been to Andorra myself. The entire country has just three UEFA-regulation stadiums.

That yellow and blue Andorra kit is a belter, I must say.
England will be all in white, with their 6,800 fans scattered around the sun-kissed RCDE Stadium, where the temperature is 28 degrees.
Croatia’s Igor Pajac is the referee today, supported by VAR Fran Jovic.

Tuchel confirms surprise England role for Curtis Jones
16:45 , George FloodSpeaking to ITV pitchside pre-game in Barcelona, Thomas Tuchel confirms that Curtis Jones will indeed be playing at right-back for England tonight out of possession, moving forward into a No8 or No10 when the Three Lions have the ball (which will be most of the evening).
He calls on his side to show the intensity, hunger and determination to break down Andorra, who will sit very deep in a committed low block.
Tuchel is also looking forward to seeing the impact of “unique character” Cole Palmer.

England backed by strong travelling contingent
16:31 , George FloodEspanyol’s RCDE Stadium has a capacity of 40,000 exactly, but only around a quarter of it will be full this evening.
England are expected to be backed by around 6,800 travelling fans in Barcelona.
The entire population of Andorra is only 80,856, as of 2023.

Thomas Tuchel issues Bukayo Saka injury update
16:17 , George FloodFor any worried Arsenal fans, here’s what Thomas Tuchel had to say about Bukayo Saka’s fitness at his pre-match press conference in Barcelona last night...
“He came into camp with a little bit of discomfort from the last match against Southampton, so we took care of him and treated him individually until today basically.
“It was the first training session that he started and finished with the group.
“Yesterday, he started with the group but did not finish with the group, so let's see.
“I'm not sure if we take the risk for tomorrow's game.
“The decision has not been taken, but he will be available for the Senegal match, and he plays a major role in our thoughts how to build a competitive team.”

Five England changes from win over Latvia
16:14 , George FloodThomas Tuchel has made five changes in total to the England team that beat Latvia 3-0 at Wembley in his second match in charge in March.
Marc Guehi, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Marcus Rashford are replaced by Dan Burn, Curtis Jones, Jordan Henderson, Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke.

Selection surprises from Thomas Tuchel
15:52 , George FloodSo England do line up as reported this afternoon, likely with Reece James at left-back and Curtis Jones as an inverted right-back, with Ezri Konsa partnering Dan Burn in central defence and Jordan Pickford in goal.
Jordan Henderson starts alongside Jude Bellingham in midfield, with Chelsea duo Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke making their first appearances under Thomas Tuchel further forward.
Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers will be keen to impress again as he completes the attacking support for lone striker and captain Harry Kane.
Trevoh Chalobah will hope to earn his first cap off the bench.
Who saw most of that coming! Tuchel certainly likes to keep everyone on their toes, doesn’t he?

England try to mimic World Cup conditions in training camp heat
15:31Rather than give his players a bit of rest after a long season, Thomas Tuchel has been eager to use England’s recent training camp in Girona as an attempt to get them acclimatised to the sweltering weather conditions they could face at next summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The Three Lions players have been doing lots of activities to help in that regard, including cycling on spin bikes in a sauna-esque setting.
The Times reported that they had also been taking biometric tablets in a bid to measure their core temperatures having been training in heated tents.
"We just tried to figure out how the players individually react to heat because it will be a very hot and humid World Cup," Tuchel said.
"We did this so that we can provide individual cooling systems and individual electrolyte drinks and so on."

Tuchel set to experiment with England lineup
15:21 , George FloodSome interesting news has emerged in the last half an hour or so regarding England’s team selection in Barcelona.
It sounds like Thomas Tuchel will experiment against Andorra after all, with the BBC reporting that Reece James could play out of position at left-back with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones potentially used as an inverted right-back.
It sounds like Ezri Konsa and Dan Burn could well be the centre-back pairing, with Declan Rice potentially rested in midfield and Cole Palmer likely to make his first appearance under Tuchel having withdrawn from the March squad through injury.
The BBC report that Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson are among the potential midfield options, with the likes of Noni Madueke and Morgan Rogers vying to start along with captain Harry Kane in attack.
As mentioned, there is no Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins or Conor Gallagher.

Tuchel calls for England to be 'relentless' against minnows Andorra
15:12There are 169 places between today’s teams in the FIFA world rankings, with England having won all six previous meetings against Andorra, scoring 25 goals in the process and conceding none, albeit with some frustrating periods where they have struggled to break them down.
Andorra have won only four World Cup qualifiers since 2000 and only 13 games in total after first being recognised by FIFA in 1996, with victory over fellow minnows San Marino last year their only triumph since 2023.
Nothing less than an emphatic win will do for England in Catalonia, with Thomas Tuchel challenging his side to be relentless at the end of a long and taxing domestic season.
"It will be on us to get going," Tuchel said. "I think it is on us to keep the tempo high, it is on us to bring the energy to the pitch.
"It is on us to bring the attacking energy to the pitch and to do this in a relentless way.
"I can fully understand that this is not the easiest time of the season for an international break.
“The players come from a short break of holiday, from a long and tiring season and then accepting again the role.
"It can be demanding but what I feel from the group is they are to be here.
"We are quite new together, it's our second camp and I have trust and belief that we will do what is necessary to get the result that we want.
"We want a win. We want a clear and solid win that is never in danger. This is what we expect from us tomorrow.
"It is important not to over expect from us in terms of already a clear result, biggest chances, goals already after 10-20 minutes, and get impatient and get frustrated with ourselves.
"I think it's a test to our patience. Andorra played against Spain and it was 1-0 at half-time with a set-piece.
"It's a World Cup qualifier. Respect your opponent, you respect the quality, the defensive organisation of your opponent and you understand how difficult it is to break down."

Why is Andorra vs England being played in Barcelona?
14:59 , George FloodDespite Andorra being the home team this evening, the game is not actually taking place in the small principality that lies between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains.
That is because their usual ground, the 3,306-capacity Estadi Nacional in Andorra la Vella, the capital city, was not ready in time after recently hosting the biennial multi-sport event known as the Games of the Small States of Europe.
So instead the match was moved to Espanyol's RCDE Stadium, with England having previously played Andorra at Barcelona's temporary home of the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in both 2007 and 2008, before playing in Andorra for the first time with a 5-0 rout under Gareth Southgate in 2021.

Andorra vs England prediction
14:44Even more so than in the games against Albania and Latvia, Thomas Tuchel will know that tougher tests await against Serbia later in qualification.
That said, he will have a lot to answer for if the Three Lions fail to win here in convincing fashion.
The gulf in class between both squads is vast, despite Tuchel leaving out a number of big names.
All being well, England should win this comfortably, extending their perfect record under the German.
England to win, 4-0.

England team news
14:39 , George FloodThere will be no Bukayo Saka for England this evening, with a knock sustained on the final day of the Premier League season with Arsenal having limited his involvement during a rather gruelling warm-weather training camp in Girona.
Tuchel said yesterday that Saka - who missed the games against Albania and Latvia in March after hamstring surgery - would likely play against Senegal on Tuesday, having only completed one full training session this week.
England are also without Ollie Watkins after the Aston Villa striker withdrew from the squad with a minor thigh issue.
Reports state that Conor Gallagher has also been left out of the matchday squad in Barcelona today, though it’s not clear if that is injury-related at this stage.
Ivan Toney is back in the England fold this week for the first time since moving to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, while uncapped Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is also in the squad.
Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Noni Madueke are among the players hoping to feature for the first time under Tuchel, but there’s no Phil Foden, Marc Guehi, Marcus Rashford, Dominic Solanke, Harry Maguire or Jarrod Bowen.
John Stones is with England as he continues to recover from a long-standing thigh injury, though won’t be fit to play in either game.
Adam Wharton is in Lee Carsley’s England Under-21 squad for the upcoming European Championship in Slovakia, along with the likes of Jarell Quansah, Tino Livramento and Elliot Anderson.
