Andor season 2 wraps filming without return of Krennic character

Andor season 2

In recent news, fans of the Star Wars franchise were excited to hear that the filming for season 2 of the Disney+ show, Andor, has concluded. However, there is a surprising update that has left many disappointed. Ben Mendelsohn, the actor who portrayed Director Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, confirmed in an interview with BadTaste that his character will not be returning for the upcoming season.

Andor serves as a prequel to Rogue One, shedding light on the backstory of its main protagonist, Cassian Andor. Given the timeline connection between the two stories, it seemed only fitting for Krennic to make an appearance in Andor season 2, as his role was pivotal in the construction of the Death Star showcased in Rogue One.

When asked about the possibility of Krennic's return, Mendelsohn expressed his enthusiasm for the character and his willingness to explore more of his story. However, he revealed that he had not been approached by Lucasfilm for any new projects involving Krennic. This news puts a damper on the hopes of fans who were eagerly anticipating the director's involvement in the show.

Although Mendelsohn's comments seemingly rule out Krennic's appearance in Andor season 2, it is important to remember the vast possibilities within the expansive Star Wars universe. While it may be unlikely for Krennic to return in a live-action capacity anytime soon, there is always a chance of seeing the character in other mediums or spin-offs.

For instance, the character Dryden Voss from Solo: A Star Wars Story had a brief cameo in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This precedent demonstrates that even characters from standalone films can find their way into different forms of Star Wars media. Considering other Star Wars shows like Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which explores the Empire's dominance, it is not entirely implausible for Krennic to make an appearance in an animated series.

However, it remains to be seen whether Krennic will have a future in the Star Wars franchise. Mendelsohn's comments suggest that as of now, there are no plans for the character's return. Nevertheless, fans should stay hopeful and keep an eye out for any surprises that Lucasfilm may have in store for the beloved Star Wars villain.

As we eagerly await the release of Andor season 2 and its connection to Rogue One, it is bittersweet to learn that Director Orson Krennic will not be gracing our screens alongside Cassian Andor. Nevertheless, the Star Wars universe is vast, and there are always opportunities for characters to make unexpected comebacks. Only time will reveal Krennic's fate and whether he will continue to captivate audiences with his presence.
