VISAKHAPATNAM: State Sports Minister M Srinivasa Rao said that AP has a vast coastline in the country and is comfortable for water sports training. He urged the central government to allot the necessary budget to create basic facilities for the sports and also encourage the sportsmen under the Khelo India Scheme.
While participating in the virtual conference organised by the central youth services and sports ministry on Monday, the state sports minister Srinivasa Rao said that the Rs. 5.5 crore astro turf field hockey project construction is almost on the verge of completion in Kakinada.
“Around 90% of works of Rs. 6 crore Multipurpose Indoor stadium in Vizianagaram and 98% works of Rs. 8 crore Multipurpose Sports Complex were completed. Another project of Rs. 4.5 crore multipurpose indoor hall is at the basement level,” the sports minister said.
Srinivasa Rao said that the state has sent the proposals of synthetic Athletic Track in Nellore district, Synthetic turf football ground in Kurnool and international standards Swimming Pool in Kommadi of Vizag city.
The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) has sent the proposals for 13 Khelo India centers in all 13 districts as per the central government's new guidelines.
The state would host 38 sports tournaments for under 14, 17, and 19 in 2021-22 as part of the School Games Federation of India.
He informed the central sports ministry that the state has resumed the sports activities as per the standard operating procedures and also online training for the PETs and coaches in the wake of covid conditions.
