AMARAVATI: YSRC MPs stalled proceedings in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the first day of Parliament’s monsoon session on Monday. The protests led to adjournment of both Houses of Parliament.
V Vijaysai Reddy, YSRC parliamentary party leader, demanded an immediate discussion on Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh by suspending the listed agenda. The MPs also demanded a discussion on Polavaram
Vijaysai Reddy issued a notice in Rajya Sabha seeking discussion on SCS to AP under rule 267. He said that seven years have lapsed since the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised SCS to AP before the bifurcation of the state.
“Singh had assured the House on March, 1, 2014 to grant SCS during a discussion on the AP Reorganisation Bill. The Union cabinet has failed to fulfill the promise even seven years,” said Vijaysai Reddy.
Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu turned down the request citing rules. “Although the issue raised by the member is fit to be debated in the House, we can’t take it up by suspending the agenda,” ruled the chairman.
