AMARAVATI: Housing minister Ch Sri Ranganatha Raju has said the state government has initiated works on about 15.6 lakh houses under phase-I of Jagananna Housing scheme.
He told the assembly on Wednesday that the government had spent around ₹10,244 crore for land acquisition and ₹1,234 crore for land leveling.
In response to a query posed by YSRC legislators Gudivada Amarnath, Anantha Venkatarami Reddy, K Abbaiah Chowdary, K Sridhar Reddy and Reddy Santhi, the minister said the state government had sanctioned 30.6 lakh houses under YSR Jagananna housing scheme.
He said they were taking up about 15.6 lakh houses under phase-I. He said they wanted to complete all the works under first phase by December, 2022.
"Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is very particular about creating the YSR Jagananna housing colonies (Navarathnalu Pedalandariki Illu) as best townships in the country. We are providing all basic infrastructure in the housing colonies," said Sri Ranganatha Raju. He said the government had already spent ₹1,200 crore to create infrastructure in the colonies.
He assured the members that they would take all possible measures to help the beneficiaries complete their houses early. He said the government had already disbursed nearly ₹2,643.31 crore to the beneficiaries to the extent of completed work.
The minister said that there was no delay in clearing the payments to the beneficiaries as they have constituted special teams to closely monitor the progress of the construction.
Meanwhile, deputy chief minister (health and family welfare) Alla Kalikrishna Srinivas said that poor quality of drinking water is resulting in kidney diseases in A Konduru mandal of Krishna district. He said three deaths were reported during 2021-22. He told the assembly that the government had set up RO plants in 14 habitations to provide potable water to the locals.
"We found high levels of silicon and fluoride in the water in the area. We are conducting regular screening camps to identify the kidney victims," said minister. He said that about 10 patients were on dialysis on daily basis and another 130 patients were on conservative treatment. He said that the government is granting ₹10,000 monthly pension to the CKD patients.
