Andhra Pradesh: Woman ends life over dowry harassment in Vizianagaram

VIZIANAGARAM: After being allegedly harassed by her husband, a 27-year-old woman, Usha Rani, ended her life at Ramabhadrapuram in Vizianagaram district.

The incident came to light on Saturday. Inspector of Police, Salur, Appala Naidu said Ch Sambi Naidu, a native of Basuru, married Usha Rani in 2011.

Sambi Naidu allegedly had an affair with a woman and started harassing Usha Rani seeking more dowry. Unable to bear the torture, Usha Rani committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at their house.

Sambi Naidu shifted her body to Basuru village to perform cremation without informing the police. Based on a complaint from the victim’s parents, Salur police registered a case and a hunt is on to nab him.

In another incident, a 33-year-old teacher ended her life at Chinamallipuram village in Srikakulam district. The deceased was J Lalitha Kumari. Police said ill-health could be the reason behind her suicide.
