VISAKHAPATNAM: Parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) districts received heavy rainfall and rainfall occurred at most places over CAP, Yanam and Rayalaseema on Wednesday and Thursday under the influence of the cyclonic that has formed over CAP and its neighbourhood. The weathermen of IMD-Amaravati predicted that isolated places across CAP, Yanam and Rayalaseema will witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely at isolated places in CAP and Rayalaseema till October 9 following the cyclone circulation.
Repalle of Guntur district recorded very heavy rain of 12 cm, followed by 11 cm in Konakanamitla of Prakasam district, 10 cm each in Cumbum and Bestavaripeta of Prakasam district, 9 cm each in S Kota in Vizianagaram district and Marripudi in Prakasam district. Vizag city of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Podili in Prakasam district recorded 8 cm each rainfall, 7 cm rainfall each in Avanigada, Narsapuram, Amaravati, Piduguralla, Ongole, 6 cm rainfall each in Machilipatnam, Chintalapudi, Tenali, Bheemavaram, Nuzvid, Vepada, Bapatla and 5 cm rainfall each recorded in Mangalagiri, Gudivada, Racherla, Koyyalagudem, Parvathipuram, Mentada, Bhimadole, Nellimarla and Salur.
In Rayalaseema region, Bathalapalle and Raptadu of Anantapur district and Jammalamadugu of YSR Kadapa district recorded heavy rainfall of 7 cm, followed by 6 cm in Anantapur, 5 cm rainfall each in Aspari, Pullivendla, Jupadu Bungalow and Putturu.
Dr Sagili Karunasagar, Scientist of IMD- Amaravati said that heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at one or two places over Guntur district and heavy rainfall occurred at one or two places over the districts of Prakasam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Krishna and West Godavari and Anantapuramu, YSR Kadapa in the last two days. Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and active over Rayalaseema, he added.
Most parts of the CAP received a bout of rainfall on Wednesday and in the morning hours of Thursday bringing relief to people of CAP who were suffering from sultry weather conditions. However, the heavy rains has dampened the Dasara festive spirit in parts of CAP and caused inconvenience to the two-wheeler riders who had to negotiate waterlogging and pothole roads.
