Andhra Pradesh: Various corporations to get directors soon

VIJAYAWADA: Having completed the exercise to appoint 137 chairpersons to various corporations and urban development authorities in the state last week, the government is now busy identifying the candidates to be appointed as members and directors for them.

The state government has started the exercise to nominate the members and directors to these corporations. The officials at the Chief Minister’s Office are now busy collecting the names to be appointed to the corporations.

The officials have asked the legislators to send at least six to eight names to be considered, giving due share for the SCs, STs, BCs, Minorities and women in the list.

According to an initial understanding, the chief minister’s office had decided to give at least four posts to every assembly constituency duly considering two posts for OCs, one for BCs and one from SC or ST or Minorities. Even while considering these posts, the officials were instructed to ensure 50 per cent of women representation from every assembly constituency.

The officials have readied the list to fill 700 posts for these corporations and the urban development bodies. A massive exercise was undertaken to complete the list with two names for each post, which would be presented to chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for his clearance.

The chief minister had insisted on giving due representation to women from all categories for these posts.

It was also decided to have a clear number of posts to be given to every district. Accordingly, the officials have prepared the draft indicating the number of seats to be given to every district as per the number of assembly constituencies.

This would mean, Srikakulam district would get 40 posts, followed by 36 for Vizianagaram, 60 for Visakhapatnam, 76 for East Godavari, 60 for West Godavari, 64 for Krishna, 68 for Guntur, 48 for Prakasam, 40 for Nellore, 56 for Kurnool, 40 for Kadapa, 56 each for Ananthapur and Chittoor districts.
