Andhra Pradesh: tribals take out rally against Maoists

Over 600 tribals took out a rally from Maddivaruvu to Bongaram in village in Pedabayalu mandal in Alluri Sitharamaraju District on Saturday, denouncing the killing of Korra Lakshmana Rao alias Lakshmo allegedly by the members of the banned CPI (Maoist).

They claimed that Lakshamana, a former militia member, was sleeping in his house at Bongajangi, a remote village in Ginnelakota village of Pedabayalu mandal, when he was dragged out in front of his family members and wife, around midnight on April 6, and killed with sharp-edged weapons near Eguvatarabu canal, after branding him as a police informer.

Condemning the killing, the tribals warned the Maoists that such acts in future will be dealt with severely. They asked the Maoists to recollect the incidents that took place earlier at Erra Cheruvulu, Sagulu, Busulu, Busiputtu, Veeravaram and Korukonda, where they had faced the wrath of the tribals.

They pointed out that in 2019, the Maoists had lured Korra Sattibabu, the younger brother of Lakshmana Rao, who was also a militia member, and had killed him after branding him as a police informer.

The tribals urged the Maoists to stop terrorising them and allow developmental activities, in their region.
