Andhra Pradesh: Tribal teacher sworn in as Zilla Parishad chairperson of Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: A tribal teacher Jallipalli Subhadra of Munchingput mandal was sworn as Zilla Parishad chairperson of Visakhapatnam district.

Subhadra won the ZPTC seat with a majority of 1955 votes against an independent candidate. She was the second tribal woman after Vanjagi Kantamma from the Araku area elected for the post in 2005-06. All the 38 ZPTCs, including CPM and TDP one each, took the oath in the ZP conference hall.

The new chairperson Subhadra promised to bring development into agency areas. "Scores of villages have no roads, drinking water scarcity, shortage of medical staff in hospitals in tribal areas. I would focus on basic amenities to the tribals, construction of schools, and development of communication networks are my main priority items," Subhadra said.

Municipal and Urban development department minister Botsa Satyanarayana’s follower and his relative Majji Srinivasa Rao alias Chinna Srinu were elected as ZP chairman of Vizianagaram. While former MLA P Sairaj’s wife Vijaya of Kaviti Mandal ZPTC was elected as Srikakulam ZP Chairperson. Ministers, MLAs, and other representatives of concerned districts attended.
