Andhra Pradesh: Transwomen clash at Ashada celebrations in Anantapur, 1 injured

VIJAYAWADA: Hundreds of transwomen from three different states clashed against each other during Ashada celebrations at a private community hall in Anantapur town on Thursday.

One of the transwomen from AP, identified as Rukshana Reshma, suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Anantapur Two Town police said the incident came to light only after some transwomen from the Rayalaseema region protested outside the collector’s office seeking action against the perpetrators.

Cops said they have received a complaint and are investigating.

Around 700 transwomen from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu attended the event. Some dispute arose regarding distribution of money between them, which led to the clash.

Reshma alleged that transwomen from other states attacked them and stole the jewellery they were wearing. The Telangana transwomen aided their Andhra counterparts and tried to defend them. Cops said they would examine CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the perpetrators.
