Andhra Pradesh, Telangana yet to deposit Rs 200 crore seed money with river boards

AMARAVATI: Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that the Centre is yet to enforce the gazette notification on Krishna and Godavari river management boards due to the non-cooperation from both AP and Telangana.

He said neither state has deposited 200 crore as seed money for the boards to launch their work.

In response to a question by BJP MP G V L Narasimha Rao, the minister said the Centre had directed the state governments to deposit the amount with the respective boards to help them initiate the management and supervision of the projects on Krishna and Godavari. While the states are yet to deposit the seed money of 200 crore each, Telangana government has not handed over the projects and power stations as issued in the notification, Shekhawat added.

As per the schedule mentioned in the gazette notification, both KRMB and GRMB should have taken over all projects on Krishna and Godavari from October 14. The Centre had issued the draft notification on July 15, giving a time of 90 days to both the state governments to hand over the installations, including power stations, to the respective boards.

"Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have not yet deposited the seed money of 200 crore each for KRMB and GRMB to discharge their functions. Both states were required to deposit this money within 60 days. This means, even after 135 days, the seed money is yet to be deposited by any of the states," said Shekhawat.
