Andhra Pradesh: Police suspect Chaddi gang's hand in two back-to-back robberies in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: Police are on a high alert following back-to-back robberies reported in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati city within a span of just 48 hours.

Suspecting the robberies to be the handiwork of the notorious Chaddi gang, Tirupati police have stepped up vigil and night patrolling besides laying a manhunt for the robbers.

At around 2.25am on Sunday, four miscreants wearing shorts and vests with a pair of chappals hanging around their waist were captured on CCTV cameras when they tried to break into an apartment at Vidya Nagar locality in Tirupati.

The gang of four broke into the locked apartment and decamped with 4 grams of gold ornaments as they couldn't find any other valuables.

Following a complaint lodged by the neighbours later, MR Palli police reached the crime scene and gathered fingerprints and other clues after analysing available CCTV footage.

Even as the MR Palli police who registered a case and just began their investigation, another robbery was reported not far away from the city at Tiruchanoor police station limits where a gang of unidentified robbers broke into an apartment on Monday and decamped with 260 grams of gold ornaments and 1500 grams of silver articles at a railways department staffers residence.

The house was left in a complete disarray while the inmates of the flat were away to another town for a brief visit.

Tiruchanoor police rushed to the crime scene with the clues team and dog squad. Police registered a case and are further investigating.

Meanwhile, Tirupati SP CH Venkata Appala Naidu appealed to the people of the temple city not to panic but remain cautious at all times.

While the urban district police wing has stepped up vigil and night patrolling following the back to back robberies in the temple city, the cops appealed to the public to make use of the locked house monitoring system to keep their homes safe.

Meanwhile memories of the 15 back to back robberies by the Chaddi gang in the temple city between 2017-2019 was back to haunt the people here amidst reports of the gang's hand in the twin robberies reported in the city within a span of just 48 hours.
